It’s not every day you get to be a part of something special within the community. Even though you normally see me photographing weddings, I got the opportunity to support Alpha Omega’s Blue Jean Bash and Benefit at the Tringali Barn last week which was so much fun! Alpha Omega Miracle Home provides transitional housing and support services to would be homeless single moms and their children and senior women.
One of the things I love about Alpha Omega is that it is so connected to being lead by God. The Blue Jean Bash and Benefit was a great way to spend a fun night out supporting a compelling cause, enjoying delicious food from Leña’s Asado (the beef empanadas were 👌!), live music, dancing, a live auction, photo booth, and a big campfire with a s’mores buffet!
Everyone had a blast and the Tringali Barn was the perfect backdrop for this experience. We got to hear the story from featured speaker Aisha, who gained the support she needed through Alpha Omega twenty years ago as a homeless pregnant 16-year-old to become the successful woman she is today. Her journey gave me chills and it’s incredible to see the impact Alpha Omega has on the women in our community.
Alpha Omega honored four individuals or groups who have made a significant impact at Alpha Omega. Those four awards were: a Community, Faithfulness, Caring and Service, and Hope and A Future.
The live auction was a joy to experience! The auctioneer was talented and hilarious. The auction for the Saint John’s County Sherriff’s tour (which ended up getting a helicopter ride added in!) was heated between three individuals! One of them was a lady who kept discussing with her husband whether they wanted to continue bidding, and the auctioneer lightheardly encouraged, “don’t look at him, look at me!” which pulled laughter from the crowd. The bid for the Sherrif’s tour was so heated it ended up being split between the top two bidders, which was a nice win-win for everyone!
One of the most beautiful parts to witness was the sponsoring of the weekly cost to house a homeless woman. The sponsors could support one week to ten weeks, and several members of the crowd offered to support twenty-five and thirty weeks! To see our community support each other like this is incredible. I’m such a believer that we rise by lifting others, and these actions are a testament to that!
During the Benefit, the speakers talked about how when Alpha Omega began, they had no idea where the Lord would lead them or who would be put in their path. Since then, they’ve witnessed hearts change and lives turn around.
I think this is such a beautiful message for us as individuals in our day to day lives. So often we feel lead in a direction that we are so uncertain of what will happen or how we’ll get there. We take steps of faith as God leads and even though the future might seem uncertain, God’s plans for us are bigger and better than we could have ever imagined. He will place who and what is needed in our path at the perfect time to help us get there.
Thank you, Alpha Omega, for the opportunity to serve you and our community. It is clear that the work you’re doing is changing hearts and lives and it was an honor to be a part of the experience with you. I can’t wait to see the work you continue to do in our community!
