One of the things I love about settling into Miami is getting to explore so many new places within a short drive. While Miami is known for its nightlife, there are also some beautiful parks and areas rich with history, stories, and nature. One of those places is Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, nestled right near the heart of Coral Gables. You could easily spend a whole weekend there, walking through the rainforest, visiting the butterfly conservatory, or curling up in a hammock near the amphitheater with a good book.

So when Alex called me to plan out his proposal to Rachel here, I couldn’t wait to check it out. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is one of Alex and Rachel’s favorite places to visit together several times a year so with it being a spot that has so much meaning for them, Alex picked here to ask Rachel to officially spend the rest of their lives together. 

One of my favorite things about photographing proposals is getting to see his perspective, and planning a moment that is meaningful to the future groom. Weddings get to be planned by both the bride and the groom, but the proposal is something special for the guy to plan for her. 

During the 4.5 years that Alex and Rachel have spent together, he’s listened to the things that she loves, and wants to plan a moment that is memorable for them both. “We may bring food for a picnic! Rach loves this place Joanna’s Market that’s just a few minutes from Fairchild.” One of the most fun parts is trying to plan everything without her knowing! 

So there I am waiting as Rachel and Alex stroll into the gardens and set up their picnic. Alex nervously (and confidently) brings Rachel aside, tells her all the reasons he adores her, gives her a big hug, and goes down on one knee. Rachel tears up, pulls him in for a kiss and gives him the biggest hug. And it’s official! They’re ENGAGED!! 

One of my favorite things about Rach and Alex is the way you can see the love they have for each other and how silly they can be together. I would tell Alex to kiss Rachel on the forehead, and just before the kiss, he would touch her forehead with the tip of his tongue, sending Rachel into the sweetest giggles!

Rachel and Alex, my wish for you is that your lives together stay rich with this much love and laughter for each other. Congratulations, you two! Can’t wait to watch this next chapter unfold for you!
